Some men believe their testosterone levels, the size of their bank accounts, or the length of their résumés define their manhood. Some men believe they must surrender their hopes, dreams, personalities, and masculinity at the door of the church. Other men believe that, simply because they were born males, they have a God-given right to bully, intimidate, demand, and dominate. These are lies. Thankfully, God offers the truth. Through the Bible, God reveals that certain characteristics must come in pairs. In order to become a man of God (or a woman of God), these characteristics must balance each other out: identity and integrity, strength and wisdom, humility and a willingness to learn from mistakes, and honor and protection. Do these characteristics play an inseparable role in your life? If you aren’t sure, then it is time to find those characteristics… time to listen to God’s definition of manhood and womanhood. It’s time to grow a pair.
