An entertaining read crammed with detail of being a Barnardo’s child and how it shaped the rest of his life. An amazing amount of research is clearly evident of the events and how people lived at the turn of the century through to the second war world. Recommended for anyone interested in this period of time, particularly in Ontario or Southampton! Also a great example for those considering writing their family history.

I really enjoyed this is based on my family history, but the real story goes deeper into somethings that have for years made a great family story, but we have not had insight into the background that would make someone move around the world, leaving a wife and small children that they really cared about. It would make an interesting read even for anyone not connected with our family. The story flows along covering the whole life span of the main character, William, and describes living conditions in rural and urban UK, as well as America and Canada, and covers both World Wars. The characters in the book are well described, and deal with both likeable and dislikable personalities, and also give some view of situations from different perspectives. I recommend......
