I am seriously impressed by his 1st Volume: ‘The Truth behind Polygamy and Secret Polyandry.’ Jim is a stickler for detail and a bit of a perfectionist – he wants to get things right and this volume does just that. Packed with detailed information – much of which I never knew before; it is painstakingly laid out, covering the entire early history of polygamy and polyandry - right up to, and past the Manifesto era. I highly recommend it as a serious study of polygamous Mormon history. I have read all 5 volumes. His first 3 are just packed with well resourced historical information. When I then glanced at the contents of his last 2 volumes (4 &5) I thought they would be boring. Why should I want to read about the Missionary Discussions or The Doctrine and Covenants again? But I did, and was amazed. If I had to read again any of his books, it would be those last two. Jim brings some very interesting angles and background information on the lunacy of basic Church teachings I once... More > thought were so true. I particularly found his scolding of Smith’s absurd god (with a small ‘g’) to be profound as well as hilarious. Seeing through Jim’s eyes, I discovered that the god of the D&C (Smith invented Revelations) was petty, vengeful, nasty, petulant, arrogant, small minded, deceptive, violent, inconsistent and wholly unreliable... and far from convincing. He describes in frustration about the god that never seems to stop blaming and threatening his own people as well as constantly labeling the entire human race as ‘evil’.... “Why can’t the Mormon God, just for once, be NICE – ever? Although I have penned my own book on the subject (The Youngest Bishop in England), I would seriously prefer a doubting and serious searcher of truth to read Jim's volumes before mine as they contain more information and evidence of the hoax. The author’s grasp and knowledge of science, physics, geology, archaeology and biology, is evident throughout his writings. His journey has been a hard and cruel discovery of facts and like many honest and utterly devout souls who can no longer live a lie, has incurred alienation from his family with suffering and rejection. His books stand as a supreme achievement and offer a light and warning to the world of the real history and face of Mormonism. For me personally, they stand as a major resource and comprehensive evidence to the great Mormon deception; every important issue is there and written with painstaking meticulous care and correctness.< Less

The title of this book, The MORMON Delusion, Volume 1, and the four companion volumes, The MORMON Delusion, Volume’s 2, 3, 4, and 5 are aptly named. In these five volume’s Mormonism is shown to be a hoax of proportions so enormous it challenges the imagination. As you read Whitefield’s meticulous research you come to realize in its beginnings Mormonism was an event of time and place by a man whose genius, charm, and pathologic morality answered to one God; The art of the possible. What Joseph Smith could get away with he recklessly pursued. His genius was most evident in how he justified his actions and behavior. Volume 1 is a study of Mormon polygamy and secret polyandry practiced by Mormon Church leaders in the early church. Most know that Brigham Young, second President and prophet of the Mormon Church, had multiple wives. Few realize that his predecessor, Joseph Smith, also practiced polygamy. Even fewer know that Smith was marrying women not divorced and living with their... More > husbands, a behavior defined as polyandry. The Appendix A through N are replete with a detailed accounting of early Mormon bigamy, complete with references. Whitefield makes it easy to follow the bigamous habits of not just Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, but all of the early church leaders. The impression that hit me the hardest after finishing this first of 5 volumes is how thorough the Mormon Church indoctrinates its members. It is a conditioning that begins at the cradle forming a cognitive focus incapable of seeing its own limitations. Never was I more impressed with the fact that our culture is the reality though which we view the world. To break free of that mind set, as Whitefield has done is truly remarkable. Most evident while reading was the author’s attitude. From PREFACE through AFTER THOUGHTS his treatment of this subject was open minded and fair. I couldn’t recommend The MORMON Delusion Vol. 1 more highly.< Less
