This is the third in a series of books exposing the truth behind Mormonism. In this volume, we review doctrines that have been discarded. To early Mormons, Adam was God and blood atonement was a stark reality. These were accepted doctrines which survived for several decades throughout the leadership of several successive prophets. Today, the Church denies they even existed. The origin of the Mormon temple ceremony is established and explained. An analysis of changes over the years shows that the rites now enacted bear no resemblance to the original ceremonies Joseph Smith lifted from late eighteenth century Masonic ritual, claiming they were restored from the time of Solomon. The psychology of a Mormon testimony is explored and explained. Sections of the Doctrine and Covenants are exposed as completely unfulfilled nonsense that Mormons simply cannot see through as long as blind faith precludes rational thinking. Nov 12, 2014I have read all 5 volumes. His first 3 are just packed with well resourced historical information. When I then glanced at the contents of his last 2 volumes (4 &5) I thought they would be boring. Why should I want to read about the Missionary Discussions or The Doctrine and Covenants again? But I did, and was amazed. If I had to read again any of his books, it would be those last two. Jim brings some very interesting angles and background information on the lunacy of basic Church teachings I once thought were so true. I particularly found his scolding of Smith’s absurd god (with a small ‘g’) to be profound as well as hilarious. Seeing through Jim’s eyes, I discovered that the god of the D&C (Smith invented Revelations) was petty, vengeful, nasty, petulant, arrogant, small minded, deceptive, violent, inconsistent and wholly unreliable... and far from convincing. He describes in frustration about the god that never seems to stop blaming and threatening his own people as well as... More > constantly labeling the entire human race as ‘evil’.... “Why can’t the Mormon God, just for once, be NICE – ever? Although I have penned my own book on the subject (The Youngest Bishop in England), I would seriously prefer a doubting and serious searcher of truth to read Jim's volumes before mine as they contain more information and evidence of the hoax. The author’s grasp and knowledge of science, physics, geology, archaeology and biology, is evident throughout his writings. His journey has been a hard and cruel discovery of facts and like many honest and utterly devout souls who can no longer live a lie, has incurred alienation from his family with suffering and rejection. His books stand as a supreme achievement and offer a light and warning to the world of the real history and face of Mormonism. For me personally, they stand as a major resource and comprehensive evidence to the great Mormon deception; every important issue is there and written with painstaking meticulous care and correctness.< Less
Feb 2, 2014The Mormon Delusion, Volume 3, Discarded Doctrines and Nonsense Revelations. This book, like the others in this series, is both a concise recap of subjects covered in the other volumes and the introduction of five new subjects. This volume, like the other four are an invaluable resource for casually interested parties as well as critically inclined scholars. Subjects covered in detail in this volume are as follows: 1 - The Adam was God. Myth, Theory or Doctrine? Attempts to explain away Smith’s faux pas are so over worked it is hard to know what to believe. Whitefield takes us from the origin of this ludicrous hoax to a soluble conclusion where interest in the subject, even by the apologists, dilutes in its own monotony. 2 – Mormonism & Masonry – Evolvement of Temple Ceremonies. There is much detail and argument in this section and only one conclusion; Joseph Smith was a thirty-second degree Mason. Everyone who has gone through a Mormon Endowment, temple ceremony is now a... More > thirty-second degree Mason. 3 – Blood Atonement & Mormon Murders. Whitefield discusses the historical record. It is clear, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, like so many before, justified murder in the name of God. 4 – The Social Psychology of a Testimony. The backbone of Mormon faith is constructed on an assimilated credulity conditioned into the person’s psyche from the cradle. “I know with every fiber of my being that the church is God’s true church.” It is repeated so many times over the years disputing its veracity is beyond question. It has the effect of producing a false sense of comfort and security in the presence of others whose belief are the same. Empirical evidence it is not. Evidence based it is not. A testimony is a self-hypnotic attempt to manufacture something concrete out of hollow, empty language. 5 – Nonsense Revelations from the Doctrine and Covenants. This is the briefest chapter and one of the most humorous to read. Much that Joseph Smith contrived defies common sense and leads to one conclusion; when it came to getting people to believe him Joseph Smith was a genius.< Less
