Gut Insight will teach you about probiotics (friendly bacteria) and prebiotics (fibers that feed those bacteria) and how they can positively influence your health. Positive effects include: enhanced immunity, reduction of pathogenic bacteria, increased mineral absorption, prevention of allergy, freedom from constipation, lactose intolerance, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and irritable bowel. Learn what probiotics and prebiotics are, why they are necessary for gut health and immunity, which foods contain them, and how to integrate them into meals and snacks. You will find resources for shopping using natural foods and specialty probiotic foods. Our guide to prebiotic food sources, familiar and exotic, serves as a resource for using these plant foods. Web links help you to quickly find information on these foods.

Who isn't concerned about eating better these days? After hearing so many advertisements for probiotics I decided that I needed to find a source of information that was well-researched and unbiased. My specific interest was information on natural products, not man-made. Having heard about Jo Ann Hattner's book from a friend in California, I ordered it. I bought the paper copy. Initial impressions: looks nice, photos attractive, content easy to follow. The only thing I missed was having an index. It looked so informative that the day it arrived I spent about an hour taking notes. The layout and book design make it inviting and easy to see what is on the page. Have already tried a couple of the recipes. It makes sense to eat food that is as close to original state as possible, so I am happy to have a few new healthy dishes to add to my meals. Also, the internet sources and other information for specific foods in Chapter 9 was very helpful. I feel better already!
"Gut Insight" I am impressed with this book Gut Insight. I really liked the four characters that are followed through out the book. They made the book a fun yet educational read. I knew a little about probiotics but really nothing about prebiotics. Gut Insight contains a through review of the natural prebiotic foods sources as well as provides valuable links for a wealth further information on their use. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain knowledge on the subject and improve their digestive health. It's working for me.
