Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Ceiling in Cross-stitch

Price: $25.00
A counted cross-stitch pattern of the entire Sistine Chapel Ceiling. Included in the book are 45 full color, individual patterns (one for every scene) and instructions on how they may be stitched together, or individually. These patterns are not computer generated. They have been meticulously created one square at a time. This allowed me to to transform the curved Sistine Chapel Ceiling into a flat pattern. There are no special stitches in the pattern, not even backstitch (except the lettering on the signs). There are only 1/4, 3/4 and full cross-stitches. Also, all the different individual pieces have been designed to interlock with the scenes around them. Although you may find patterns of parts of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling elsewhere, as an aggregate you will not find a similar pattern anywhere. To see a sample of the chart, click on the preview associated with this book. A black & white chart may be seen in the preview associated with the B/W version.

Even though I have rated the book at 5, I feel that the pages would be better put into a file (which I have done) then the pages can be taken out and overlapped or checked.

"This is an awesome book!!" I highly recommend this book. It is well done, easy to follow patterns. If you want a real challange this is it. Although you could do just parts of the ceiling, it is a masterpiece.

"Sistine Chapel Cross-Stitch" Recommendations for making bobbins, washing and ironing: Tape two cardboard bobbins together for strength. Copy the cross-stitch symbols from the pattern you are working on. If using a black and white pattern, highlight the cross-stitch symbols with a yellow highlighter to make them easier to see. Cut out the cross-stitch symbols and tape them to the bobbin. Write the DMC number on the back of the bobbin. Wash by hand in cold water with a gentle detergent (I use Arm & Hammer). Use Oxyclean with the detergent when you wash. The Oxyclean will really bring out the colors. Dissolve the Oxyclean in warm water first, as it tends to clump up in cold water. Rinse thoroughly in cold water. Place cross-stitch between two large towels and pat dry. When ironing the cross-stich, place the finished piece artwork side down, on top of three or four layers of fresh, clean towels. You can iron the back without any ironing protection. Never, ever iron the... More > front of the artwork. The only thing that's safe to iron on the front is blank fabric. The purpose of the towels underneath the cross-stitch is to provide a cushion. The cushion keeps the individual cross-stitches from becoming flattened by the iron. The finished piece will be "puffed out" a bit, and this will enhance the presentation.< Less

"The Sistine Chapel Ceiling in Cross-stitch" The book is a wonderul color account of a museum quality work in fiber arts. I have stood in awe of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, and when people viewed this cross-stitch phenomenon they stood in awe and reverance, too, along with me. The colors and quarter stitching for the faces are awesome--every stitch.
