In public, Rain appears to be your average teenage girl. She enjoys shopping and dressing pretty and whatnot, but the fact is that she's hardly average. Some would debate she's even a girl! In truth, Rain is a male-to-female transsexual.
Join Rain as she attempts to survive her senior year in high school passing solely as a woman in this slice-of-life comedy.
Volume 1 includes the first six chapters of the story as they are seen online at DeviantArt, SmackJeeves and Comic Fury. Also included are the many "Rain Delay" gag segments and an exclusive bonus chapter that won't be seen online.
This is a wonderful read and I cannot recommend it enough. I laughed out loud, giggled and tore up reading it. The character are not only fully fleshed out but you can easily identify with them even if you haven't gone through their ordeals. A coming of age type story, it's an awesome medium to introduce people to the complexities of gender and sexual orientation in a light-hearted manner so I'd specially recommend it to high school teachers who want to add to the school's library. I'll hope you'll give it a try and come back to review your own opinion.
I may be biased, as a reader and a fan, but... Rain is a fantastic comic. Even though the title is Rain, to assume it's all about our shy but strong protagonist would be to ignore the surprisingly complex Gavin, the edgy and moody Maria, the chipper and fun-loving Rudy, and the caring but snarky Aunt Fara, not to mention Kylie, Aiken, Emily, Robert, and the ever-important Rand M. Guy. Humor and drama are melded seamlessly - we jump from Maria ogling Rain's (perfect, beautiful) legs to spatting with Gavin, or from Rudy describing his unaccepting family and classmates to providing an unwelcome (and hilarious) conversation-stopper. I suck at describing this... you should just read it already! There's never a dull moment - Jocelyn has an infinite bag of tricks that she seems to pull the plot from, and it always works! Anyway, if you like slice-of-life comics, or high school stories, or works that deal with gender themes, or fun contemporary fiction in general, you should check out Rain... More > immediately.< Less
