This book is great! I am halfway through reading it the second time and have decided to buy a second copy as a gift for someone I know. Some of the psychological insights, although presented in the context of child development can easily be applied to people at any age and have helped me gain a better understanding of adults I know. I found it to be both comprehensive and concise. It is obvious this is a distillation of knowledge gained from a lifetime of both study and first hand experience, but personally I appreciated the way complicated concepts are conveyed in relatable stories. The idea of 'scripting' in chapter 2 I found particularly intriguing, and also the Chinese 'silk pillow' babies in chapter 7 (which I had never heard of before)

"Rambling" The best word to describe this book is rambling. The author rambles, frequently veering off on tangents or excessively detailed anecdotes, and returns often to thoughts which are redundant and repetitious. I didn't find any great insights in this book. It's all common sense, and the observations will be no revelation to any thinking, socially aware person.

"Interesting" Practical beyond most parenting books I’ve read. The author’s approach is honest and unapologetic. I found this book to be an interesting read.

"Refreshingly straight forward" Great advise throughout the book in straightforward terms. No flowery theories or feel good nonsense. Really hammers home the real issues parents need to be aware of.
