Mr. Lester's Farm

Mr. Lester's Farm is a beautifully illustrated book that will educate and inspire people of all ages on many levels: 1. It chronicles the role that rail travel had in changing New Jersey from a farming state to one of hundreds of residential communities. 2. It explains the disappearance of privately owned and operated farms throughout North Jersey. 3. It encourages us all to retain our respect for the fruits of our land and for all of the creatures of the earth we share this land with. 4. It demonstrates what average citizens, with common values, can do to preserve local history for generations to follow. The book tells the story of a New York City boy who came to his uncle's farm by rail every summer, then took over what was to be the last working farm in Ridgewood, NJ. In honor of its place in history and the love Mr. Lester had for his land and animals, the stable of that farm was saved and now serves as a community center for residents throughout the greater Ridgewood area.
