In 1939, just days after the outbreak of the Second World War, Nora Watson and John Mountain met. Within days of John’s departure to fight in the North Africa Campaign they were married. This book follows their individual stories of their lives from birth to being re-united at the end of hostilities. This story covers both their early lives growing up in Wakefield, West Yorkshire in the early part of the 20th century and gives in insight into how World War II impacted on the lives of those who lived through it. I very much enjoyed reading this book. The way John and Nora have written their stories makes you feel as though you are sat with them, listening to their memories over a cup of tea. It's always very humbling to hear how our elders made sacrifices during WWII and this book is no exception. The story is not overly graphic and therefore suitable for teen readers too. I live in the Wakefield area so the local angle was particularly interesting for me. All profits going to Wakefield Hospice make this book a super little buy!
