All roads and bad ideas lead to your local dive-bar. DRINK THIS BOOK is a collection of bar tales, overheard conversations, and true stories (as far as we can remember). This is the seedy but entertaining underworld of drunks, degenerates, and those who disdain them...told from the perspective of your buddy watching it all go down, the BARTENDER. (WARNING: if you think that you recognize some of the plotlines or characters mentioned in these pages, for God's sake keep it to yourself. "Cheers to a fantastic bar book" I literally could not put this book down -- I finished it on the very day it arrived in the mail. This is required reading for anyone who has ever spent too many hours in a bar, whether in front of or behind the stick. If you've never tended bar but do the bar scene, it's like having a world you thought you knew broken open and showed to you in a way you never would have expected. Once you see bar life from the authors' viewpoint, you'll never look at bars the same way again. The book consists of several relatively short chapters, each one self contained like its own short story, giving a snapshot of life as viewed from the bartender's perspective. Some chapters flow smoothly, some bump and grind, but all have a ring of truth about them and move right along, extremely well paced. Authors Flanigan and Hurley know thieir stuff and pull no punches in a book that yes, by the time I was halfway through, I was reading with a beer in one hand. If... More > you want to know how these New York City bartenders deal with sexy naked roommates, hot stalkers with tattoos on their cleavage, barfly losers who won't go away, dangerous leg-breaking bikers, scam artists, coked-up yuppies, loser job interviews, rot-gut, lunatics with knives, incognito cops and much more, well, it's all here. Kudos also to David Wildman, who contributes cool drawings to head each chapter, too. Cartoon cleavage was never so apt. Raise a glass and buy this book.< Less
