A Mery Play Betwene Johan Johan, the Husbande, Tyb, his Wyf, and Syr Jhan, the Preest
A short play for three actors -- two men, one woman -- that requires very little scenery, is all too easily understood by audiences everywhere, and provides limitless opportunity for bawdy improvisation.
This play has sex, violence, anticlericalism, good food values, and an Early Modern English text that's easier to understand than the King James Bible.
It's an unbeatable piece of period bawdry -- the veriest filth, if you want to play it that way, though it cleans up well -- that takes half an hour to perform, can be adapted to all circumstances, and is vast fun for actors and audience alike.
