"Everyone Likes to Laugh!" However, not all comedians appeal to everyone. I once received a letter from a movie fan who couldn't stand Chester Clute. Chester's presence in a film for only a few minutes would ruin that whole picture for him. Now, I quite like Chester. The only comedian I've ever really tried to avoid is Jerry Lewis. To quote my review of "Scared Stiff": the film "is at its best whenever Jerry Lewis is not on the screen." I don't particularly care for Jack Haley either. Jack's "strenuous efforts to undermine credibility" in the 1945 "Scared Stiff" are also noted. However, with the exception of these two over-zealous "comics", I can put up with the lot. Even people like Marjorie Main, Gracie Allen and Arthur Lake, partly because I love Percy Kilbride, George Burns and Penny Singleton. My favorite comedian, however, is Harold Lloyd and my choice for the top comedy team goes to Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey.... And there's also a list of my choices for the Best 100 Comedy Movies ever made. Maybe you won't enjoy them as much as I do (I laugh myself silly every time I watch them), but it's a chance to see what you're missing.< Less
