As someone who rarely reads fiction I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it held my interest. I really enjoyed the diverse characters and their development and for those of us from the area the local sites and flavor. I recommend reading Heady Waters.

I love to read, especially first novels and this book did not disappoint. This story kept me interested from the start and I was surprised at the end, which is not always the case with many murder mysteries. Can't wait for the next installment from the varied cast of characters.

Living in a small town world for most of my life, John L. Horan's, "Heady Waters," caught my attention. This intriguing murder mystery provides great insight into the dark and corrupted realities of small town America. Going beneath the surface of Riverton, captures the essence of character in its diverse citizens. Mike Hanigan brings reality and integrity into how citizens of small town USA may become products of their associations and environment. Hanigan has been introduced to all types, including 'river rats.' Living around this combination of the human race could be the reason Hanigan is so accepting of his friends' questionable activities. With his 'partner in crime',girlfriend Berg, Hanigan figures out the puzzle pieces to solve the horrendous crime . So many thought provoking twists and turns with a thread of humor woven throughout. Would enjoy reading another murder mystery based on Hanigan being open to a life change with caring, intelligent girlfriend, Berg.

Heady Waters was a very engaging novel; I didn't want to put it down. A fantastic entagled plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. It was very unpredictable with exceptional descriptive details that helped fuel your imagination. If you are associated with southeastern Nebraska, it is even more compelling to read.

If you like the stylings of John Grisham, Scott Turrow, or DW Buffa, then you will like John Horan's Heady Waters. It's got all the good stuff: Lawyers, Drugs, & Money. I loved the scene (not a spoiler) where Cooter, one of the stoned river rats, has his buddy stand on a chair and play "visine bomber" into Cooter's eyes-- "Once standing atop the chair, he unscrewed the lid to the Visine bottle and turned it sideways, above Cooter's head, which was now resting face up on Graham's filthy avocado-green shag carpet.... as each drop hit either his face or, less often, his actual eye, Cooter cackled wildly, like a stoned hyena..." Horan is another lawyer/ writer on his way up. You will enjoy this twisting legal thriller.
