John and his half-Greek wife Yvonne-Maria moved from the UK to Rhodes in 2005, the account of which was told in his first book, FETA COMPLI! MOUSSAKA takes up where FETA COMPLI! leaves off, with Yvonne and John settling into life on Rhodes and coming into contact with some great characters who live around them out there. Plus, there's another helping of reminiscences from past years and other parts of Greece and Europe in general; like the time when Yvonne was Miss August on a calendar that graced the walls of innumerable offices all across Germany after meeting a German businessman on a beach in Corfu. Then there's Manolis, the "Six Million Drachma Man," who climbs olive trees even though he only has one and a half legs! The "Lonely Goatherd" comes by, as does Kostas, the local who shows them which weeds are great to eat. Yvonne helps Greco-Turkish relations during an evening out on Samos and John reluctantly become the elephant man for a while.

"Moussaka to my ears by Paul White" This is the authors second novel taking up where Feta Compli left off. I loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it. Its a great holiday read with real insights into the Greek way of life and what its like to live in Rhodes. I found it very funny, easy to read and I can't wait for the authors next instalment.

"What a Great Greek Read" I love Rhodes Island; the scenery, the people, the general ambience. So it was with some trepidation that I picked up John Manuel's latest travel book, "Moussaka to My Ears". To say I was not disappointed would be an understatement. I think if you have never been to Greece it would make a very good read but for those of us who love Rhodes it is a must. The essence is in the detail (did Chanel say that first?). Even if you visit a place many times there are things the visitor does not see. You need to be a resident, an observant resident who lives away from the much beaten tourist track. So John takes us up the mountainside to the home he shares with his wife Maria [Yvonne] and it is there that you will learn of the ancient laws of goat herding. It is there that your neighbour will teach you how to collect the wild "horta," the same vegetation that often appears on Greek menus as 'weed salad.' And John and Maria speak Greek, what... More > a bonus! I had read and enjoyed Feta Compli, but for me this second book 'takes the biscuit.' Thanks John for an enlightening and enjoyable read.< Less
