The Topographical Poems of John O'Dubhagain and Giolla Na Naomh O'Hudhrin

ByJohn O'Donovan

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Seán Mór Ó Dubhagáin (d.1372) was an Irish Gaelic poet. He was accorded the rank ollamh seanchai (professional historian) to the Uí Maine and recorded Irish clan history up until the Norman invasion of Ireland. The Topographical Poems describe the ancient names of tribes and territories in Ireland. There are also many notes on how the names were anglicised and observations of male and female Irish forenames and their modernised forms. This book is invaluable to those studying the history of Ireland and Irish Surnames. John O'Donovan (Seán Ó Donnabháin), 1806–1861, was from Atateemore, in the parish of Kilcolumb, County Kilkenny, and educated at Hunt's Academy, Waterford. He is widely recognised as one of Ireland's greatest Irish scholars and first historic topographer. Amongst his many contributions is the translation of the Annals of the Four Masters.
