John Rose is only the third writer-cartoonist to produce "Barney Google and Snuffy Smith," and he (as did predecessor Fred Lasswell with creator Billy DeBeck), served as an assistant before taking over, allowing for a seamless transition. In this volume, the first featuring Mr. Rose's work, we are treated to the personal favorites of the cartoonist himself. These comics put the "hoot" in "Hootin' Holler" with their fun characters and funny gags! The book appeals to me as a lifelong fan of rural humor (radio, films, books, television, comics), but I feel thus humor is sorely needed in today's world. It's suitable for the entire family, and many of us have a "Snuffy" somewhere in the family tree! My only complaint is the fact that there is only one volume available! I hope to see more!
