I knew the author of this book as a child at the boarding school in Powers Lake, North Dakota, and stumbled upon this book tonight by accident! I was transported back many years to many happy memories but learned so much more about his family from reading this book -- so much local history, geography and tales of the town. His sister, Monica, was my best friend for many years and I was so sad to hear of her passing a few years ago. I lost touch with her and wish I had her mother's address to write her a note. This book reminds me a bit of the Little House books in the way he refreshingly writes of boyhood memories in the outdoors alongside his father and the many Catholic references and stories which are woven throughout. I loved finding out the latest news of his family, too! Marcy Youngster (Noell -- Dede Noell's younger sister)
