The Trelawne Book 1600 is an inventory and record of the estate at around the time it was acquired by the Trelawny family. It was probably created on the orders of Sir John Trelawny, the first baronet, whose father bought the estate from Queen Elizabeth. It is a snapshot of its period whose oldest document is dated 1374. This edition is for the convenience of researchers, historians and those with an interest in how things were ordered in those days. It include details of customs, rentals and tenancies of the estate. The spellings in the body of the book are transcribed faithfully. Consistency in this regards seems not to have been a major preoccupation at that period. Appended to this copy of the original book, at the end, are six extracts of previously unpublished family papers.
