Summertime, and the livin' is easy--except for the family of Mike Seagrave. While his grandfather is injured and his violent father jailed, it's up to Mike to run the family business and save the family legacy--Seagrave Point--from developers. Mike enlists the help of Jay Boyett, a womanizing university dropout, but can Jay keep his hands off the girls long enough to do the job? And will Mike stay clear of the bullying Del Mastro brothers or be forced to face them once and for all? The Point is an action-packed story of beach fires and brawls, love and heartache, responsibility and redemption. Ultimately, it's a story about growing up . . . and discovering the person we want to be isn't always the person we are.

Sep 28, 2009I hope there's a sequel too! Glad you enjoyed The Point, Kristen.
Mar 19, 2009I really enjoyed reading The Point, especially the storyline with Mike and Faith, and with Conrad Policy. It was hard to put the book down as I was always kept in suspense and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I hope there's a sequel!
Apr 20, 2008" The Point is a Winner!" Hey John, I don't know where to start. The Point brought back many memories for me. You did a great job developing the characters, each with different issues and some facing their own demons. The build-up was good. Each chapter made you want to keep reading. Short chapters with suspenseful endings are a great way to drive the reader to the next chapter. After chapter 8, I could hardly put the book down. I personally like the detailed description in the book. The way you wrote the descriptions made me feel like I was riding in the whaler with Mike and Jay or climbing the lighthouse stairs with Faith or walking down the beach with Kelly. I liked the way the book ended, with each character getting a dose of reality on life and its consequences. The ending gave the reader some satisfaction but kept them wondering what the future brings for Jay,Mike,Faith and Policy. My only prediction is that Kelly will end up marrying the wrong guy for the wrong... More > reasons. My favourite character was Tom. His dark persona fit in well as a kind of tragic hero to everyone he knew at Seagrave Point. While reading the book I had a dream one night about me and Jay trying to break Tom out of jail! Maybe an idea for the sequel. The book is definitely fiction or Mike Seagrave is superman. I have tried many times drunk and sober to climb that cable on the lighthouse and the highest I ever got was about half way before the cable cut into my hands and I retreated back down. The Point was surreal to me. It gave me a glimpse back into the past and reminded me how lucky I was as a kid to spend my summers at the Point. Honestly John I think you did an amazing job writing this book. I hope its not your last. Take care, Rupp< Less
Apr 17, 2008"Thank you" As I turned the pages it all came crashing back to me like the crashing of waves on the endless sandy beach I remember. I felt the warm, soft sand between my toes. Felt the warmth of the late-afternoon sun on my face, sparkling on the calm, clear water. The sound of the gulls circling lazily, so high overhead. Embracing her under a sky full of stars, seeing the Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon. A shooting star skipping off the atmosphere like a stone skipping across the water, while silent flashes of heat lightning light the sky. Holding each other in the glow of the campfire, inhaling the scent of coconut oil mixed with her own in the hot August night. The silkiness of her dark skin, the softness of her long hair, the hunger of her kisses. Embracing each other and life itself! Holding her so tight, hoping that this instant, this night, this summer would last forever! Thank you for bringing those memories back to and old man with such crystal clarity!... Apr 13, 2008I thoroughly enjoyed "The Point". Having been a cottager for several years, I could identify with all the sights, sounds and smells of the beach and surrounding areas that you brought so vividly to life. I must say, your book cost me the most of a nights sleep, as I had to stay awake for the conclusion! It would make a terrific movie. Way to go. Glenna
