I must confess to a personal bias. Professor Brown was my great-grandfather. He wrote this book toward the end of his career as a physics prof, and two of his former students published it after his death. I still have a few originals at home. A few years ago my grandmother donated a copy to NASA, where it eventually came to the attention of the SF Historical Association. He was ahead of his time. He wrote science fiction when science fiction wasn't cool. The book is loaded with diagrams and equations (which probably explains why it never became a best seller). The technical accuracy is pretty amazing, considering what was known when it was written. It contains the earliest known picture of someone in a space suit. For the picture of the space ship landing on the moon he hand carved a small model and suspended it by a thread. All of the characters are real people from Providence, KY. One of his last wishes was that every one of his former students would have a copy. CM Wood CDR, USN... More > (Ret) Health physicist< Less
