"A testament of love and devotion..." From a modern worshipper and priestess of an ancient God. Some of the stories in this remarkable book revisit Poseidon's familiar myths such as the "rape" of Demeter, how Poseidon and His two brothers divided the earth, land and seas among Themselves after the defeat of Their father Kronos, and how Poseidon wooed and inadvertently destroyed the beautiful priestess Medusa. Other stories present entirely new tales, such as the kidnapping and deluding of one of Poseidon's mermaids in modern times, and the coming-of-age of one of His sons in a futuristic settings. In all of these stories, the author's deep love and reverence for her beloved deity shines through. For me, though, the most touching tales in the book are the one that shows Poseidon comforting and healing earthquake survivors while His beloved priestess comforts Him in turn, and the one in which a bereft young woman finds comfort in His arms. All of these stories are... More > gems (Treasures from the Deep is a very apt title, indeed!) and reading them gave me a deeper appreciation for this God, through the author's eyes. If you love Poseidon or any of the Greek Gods, or are at least interested in Them, this book is a definite must-read for you.< Less
