"Jonathan Dodds " 16.10.07", review by nikki goodban." Within Jonathan Dodds first edition of 16.10.07 you find yourself being over whelmed by a series of documentary style shots which evidentially highlights a 5000 person strong march along London's Trafalgar Square. Too many these photographs would appear as nothing more then your somewhat "bog standard" snap shots. however what Dodds has done here is not only captured a particular protest in history but also that of of tense times with the relationship between the citizens of this country and that of the people who power it. The concept of capturing this tension is easily reflected within the type of shots in which Dodds has captured and the significances of each one. his photographs portray a great sense of rawity from within, this being evidence by them being from his own point of view. Hes kinda brought to us the viewer and insight in the going on within such marchs, and makes us have a whole new... More > perspective on them. the visual structure within this book is greatly beneficial to that of each shot. with each photo been central placed with nothing more then a a thick white boarder surrounding them, alienating each shot. as too make u concentrate souly on each picture as an individual. this is very much reflected with the overall design of the photobook, as the balance between the usage of black and white is evenly shared. it would seem that the old motto of "less is more" is very much visible within this book as i feel too produce the images in color would somewhat distort the viewer attention from the matter in hand. something which is usually rather hard for photographers to do, that of balance text and imagery. Dodds has demonstrated that he is very much capable of this. with paying close detail to the relationship of both elements. with the books intro being type based, amongst a pure white back drop this has been carried out threw the book, with the images being portioned in the same way making the structure of the book run very smoothly.< Less
