"Cancer, alternatively known by its technical name - ‘that thing that happens to other people’, is no laughing matter. Life, on the other hand - that thing that happens to most people, certainly is". From its questionably optimistic opening statement to its long lingering closing line, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to Cancer' follows one man's mission to out-laugh life and outlive cancer. Jam-packed with original quotes, laced with sarcasm, sprinkled with witticisms and coated in a thick layer of cynicism, it is more than just a glimpse into the mind and mindset of one hopeful pessimist; it is a call to reevaluate our attitude towards life's greatest and smallest challenges. It is a personal examination of universal experiences, and an attempt to find life lessons in life's less enjoyable moments. But above all, it's hilarious, and that's what really matters.

Reading “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Cancer” brought me back to the glory days in which I sat in the author’s classroom, jotting down his wittiest stories and wise words. If someone had handed me this book without telling me who the author was, the clever play on words, character, and provocative, thoughtful insights would have given it all away. I made the mistake of reading some of the chapters in the office...I made a fool of myself, not once, but multiple times, by bursting into uncontrollable laughter. This book allows everyone to enjoy what until recently only the author’s students could: a unique, humorous, extraordinary perspective on life and everything beyond. Read this book, for life is not complete without it:)

This is without a doubt THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER written! If you love life and/or laughter, you need to read this book. If you love your family and/or friends, you need to tell them about it. If you read one book this year, it needs to be this book. If you know how to read, you need to read this book. If you don't know how to read, you need to learn how to read and read this book. YOU. NEED. TO. READ. THIS. BOOK. It's as simple as that.

I was lucky enough to have the incredible experience of being the author's student last year. We have all been waiting with bated breath for the release of this memoir, and in my opinion, the result is more than perfect. The balance of poignant insights and the witty humor we've come to know and love had me glued to the book from the moment I downloaded. I'd advise you all to heed the warnings in the prologue; you will legitimately laugh out loud. Not just a little chuckle, an honest-to-goodness full-out belly laugh that may earn you wary looks from the people around you who have the sad misfortune of not being engrossed in this book.
