Archie Ren didn’t want to be identified by labels like male or female. From an early age he knew he’d never fit in but Archie is an unfortunate soul who keeps at it. Life is hard enough without being cursed with two genders and passing off as a male. Archie’s adventure begins with answering a job ad that leads him into an unpredictable world of sexuality and acceptance. Estranged from his parents, he moves in with David and begins a turbulent attempt to create a new home.
Told from his point of view, “As I Am” explores Archie’s emerging sexuality, secret crushes, sexual mishaps, heartaches, independence, friendship and ultimately love and acceptance of self.

As I am was a real tear-jerker. From the very first page I was drawn in by the main character, Archie. It felt as though he were actually talking to me and telling me his story. I don’t know if this was based on a true story or not but Archie sure felt real to me and the struggles he went through in life AS A HERMAPHRODITE! This novel really changed the way I look at the LGBT community and their personal struggles in general for the better.
