The author, being from a La Salle school, wrote from a qualitative perspective with enough objectivity. This book quite successfully reviewed what happened to La Salle-affiliated schools in countries that extended their basic education from ten years to twelve years. I must say, it almost fell short to say that as secondary school years lengthened, the tertiary or university years shortened (say, Engineering became as short as 3 years in most schools). The eventuality is that many general education teachers in the university moved down to upper secondary school teaching. As in the Philippines, Thailand is still on an observer status in the Washington Accord. We feel that our Engineering graduates not going outside Thailand for employment is beneficial for our country. Although we still need our graduates to be at par with the rest of the world. The book hardly discussed this for Thailand, though it did so for other Asian countries. The La Salle experiences that happened in other... More > countries may indeed be repeated in the Philippines as it extends its basic education to twelve years. The suggested programs and interventions mentioned in the latter part of the book should however be discussed in more detail, including financial constraints and some more possible pitfalls.
