Woven Colors is a play about love, acceptance and friendship. In 1979, Susan—a wannabe fashion designer—lives in Paris with Thomas, a German fashion student. Michael, a Black gay man, arrives from Montreal to visit Susan, his childhood friend. Thomas seduces Michael, but when Thomas begins having an affair with a bisexual man, Michael, broken-hearted, returns to Montreal. Cut to 1984. Michael works at leather bar. He reconnects with Susan and hooks up with Bruno, a Quebecois physician who is leather savvy. Michael's life is irrevocably transformed when AIDS hits the bar clientele. Our characters’ choices in the 80s are shaped by the experience of AIDS, but Woven Colors is timeless: it tests our characters' capacity to resolve complex issues in our uncertain and unpredictable world; while they seek to sustain universal virtues.
