Normally in the Christian Church, as one generation grows older and is replaced by a younger generation, slight readjustments of the liturgy are needed due to the relatively small differences between most generations. In general, the small changes in the liturgy represent minor movements in musical tastes, the use of language, and the interpretation of theology. Sometimes these liturgical changes have been larger and, in general, the larger changes in the liturgy have occurred during the times of major societal, philosophical, and theological changes. The normal replacement of one generation with another generation is currently taking place in the Church, except it appears that this time of transition has the possibility of being a time of major liturgical change because we are once again experiencing major societal and philosophical upheavals as we transition between two ages: the modern and the postmodern.
