"At First Glance" An African reviewer of Mma poetry notes that 'African poetry has a double heritage-pre-colonial and Western.' 'Essentially,' he notes 'such art was meant for the whole community rather than for a few initiates. Besides, it was didactic. Yet as a song or tale, it necessarily must delight by its aesthetic finesse, and entertain.'The poems in this collection are reflections of the personal quality of Etiowo's craft. They include her experiences and sum up her beliefs in community and self. There is thus hardly an aspect of its nativity that distinguishes the poems from the present community of poetry lovers.
