Pippi’s and Piper’s Outdoor Adventure is written for children ages three to six. School is out for the summer! But as seven-year-old twins Pippi (a boy) and Piper (a girl) go outside to play, they soon discover this day will be anything but typical. Three special creatures—Buzzy Beetle, Looker Lizard, and Grassy Hopper—strike up conversations with the children that cause them to think differently than they have before and laugh often: they find the conversations as unique as the events themselves. The story is enhanced with clipart that supports readers’ imaginations.

This is a review by two of my grandchildren who have been encouraged all their young lives to be who you are, just at Pippi and Piper represent. In my own life as a child I was raised in the country with animals as my companions on my daily adventures.I have practiced and taught alternative medicine and mindful meditation for 30 years and I find Pippi's and Piper's Outdoor Adventure both healing and mindful. I liked your book. I liked the part where they were going to paint the house butterfly yellow. I liked the cloud pictures and I could read most of the words. I am Asher, 7 years old and I am in 2nd grade this fall. I liked the pictures in your book especially the Twins and the Beetle. I liked all the pretty colors too and the names. I am Ariana, 4 years old and I will be in pre-K in the fall. (Asher read it to his sister Ariana.)

I will admit to being a fan of all of Joyce Shafer's previous writings, but I wasn't sure about a children's book. After all, Joyce's other books had all been geared towards older huples. What I enjoyed is a book that is imaginative and instructive for younger and older huples alike. Filled with colorful clip art, play activities and a fanciful story, Joyce's latest work is a delight to read and share. Yet it is more than just a story. It presents useful messages that we all should think about and discuss with each other and our younger friends. And given that every purchase benefits the I AM Foundation, it is a win - win purchase for everyone. Enjoy the book and discover who the huples are! Roger F Aucoin, PMP, M.Ed.

If attention is not in the present moment, then the moment is missed and the lesson is lost. No matter what age, understanding the simplest of truths lends greatly to the quality of our lives. Through words and art, Joyce Shafer invites you to come along and frolic through the colorful lives of Pippi and Piper, as they discover the beauty of Nature's secrets from conversations with creatures that crawl. The bright images offer lightness, joy, and simplicity, keeping both children and adults visually engaged as the unfolding story recounts some very basic, but profound truths. In words easily understood by those from six to sixty, and beyond, Joyce's message is clear...true listening heightens awareness. Nature has much to teach, if we would only listen, really listen.
