WINNER OF LiFE AWARD, Literature for Environment 5 STAR REVIEW, Readers' Favorite,Reviewed By Mamta Madhavan The Forest Giant by J.R. Poulter and Theda Mimilaki is the story of a giant who gets separated from his friends in the forest when they all go hunting together. He ventures deep into the ancient forest and gets lost. The forest does not let him go and, as the years go by, he feels he is a part of the forest. The leaves from the trees fall from his hair like dandruff and roots start coming out from his shoes. He drinks the rain and the dew, and the squirrels and birds bring him nuts and berries. As time passes, the giant can only remember being a tree. It so happens that one autumn day two children wander into the deep forest. They are not worried because they have their mobile phones to call for help but after a while the phones get cut. As they venture into the mysterious depths of the forest, they come across the Giant. What happens when... More > they meet the Forest Giant? The story is magical, enchanting, and beautiful, and the message is profound and thought provoking. The Giant shows how he adjusted to the new surroundings after losing his way and how he found his place in the forest and blended in effortlessly. The story is about finding your place, belonging, loss of identity and home, and acceptance and adjustment. The metaphorical description of the Giant blending in with the forest and awakening when he meets the boy and the girl is poetic and is aesthetically expressed. The illustrations, just like the author’s words, are whimsical and they enhance the magic of the story. The story is beautiful and will be enjoyed by all, irrespective of age, because of the timeless concept.< Less
