Camping through Europe with six kids? Slumber parties on trampolines? Barf pie? In the tradition of Cheaper by the Dozen, one family creates its own adventures simply by being together. From mealtimes to camping, this family of eight journeys through life making memories that seem too funny to be true–but they are. For anyone who has ever suffered a know-it-all older sister or aggravating younger siblings, this book spares no one, guilty or innocent. In stories of their life together from the 1950s through a trip to Europe in 1967, Judy Houser shares adventures of the Houser family that will make you laugh until you cry, gasp in disbelief, and perhaps recall a time in which life was simpler and family was always there, even when you wished they weren’t. If you love reality TV, enjoy a journey of real love in “One + One= Six”.

Jan 23, 2011The story touches us all who adore the simple life growing up in this great Country of ours, The United States of America. Judy is pleasantly written a well summarized story of her Southern Roots that depict, even though, they moved from place to place as a family; her parents instilled upon her, the importance of a family unit. Struggling to grow as one and she has learned from that. Judy shares some of those personal stories and makes us love her and laugh with her. I congratulate Judy, not only for her writing accomplishment, but for her courage to write about her personal life story. I am waiting for the next book, don't make us wait 14 years!
Jan 16, 2011If you are looking for something incredibly entertaining and funny, then One + One = Six will deliver a humorous and heart warming experience. This story of the Houser family will take you back in time with details of what life was like in the 50"s with six kids. As I read the story I felt like I was experiencing all the adventures along side the Houser family.
Jan 14, 2011The author creates a perfect blend of nostalgia with a wry sense of humor in relating tales of her large family and their adventures at home and aboard. As a baby boomer, I found myself remembering things I hadn't thought of in years, like granny gowns and junior high crushes. But the most engaging part of Houser's story for me was the strong bond between her parents; two people who both wanted a large family and then went ahead and did it by having six children in rapid succession. It's a fun book to read but can also be a thoughtful and respectful look at the past.
Jan 5, 2011This is a lovely book, very humorous and enjoyable to read. I bought it for myself, and my wife and our thirteen year old son have read it and loved it too - that is a first! It is a warm, true story about a large, loving family.
Dec 19, 2010I just ordered this book and cannot wait to receive it. Twenty years ago I listened to the author talk about her family every morning and during lunch. She made me laugh tell I cried at that time. I still work at that school where I heard those stories; Judith moved to another school but we have stayed in touch, at least by Christmas cards. I expect the book will be a 5 star rating since the author is a 100 star story teller and a lifelong friend even from a distance. All my love to her and this family! Carol T. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS BOOK, JUDY.
