This is more than a work of fiction. It is an engaging, well-written story, based on the life experience of a great-grandmother whose life the family tried to keep secret due to their embarrassment of her commitment to the Poor House during the depression of the 1930's. Judith wrote this book partly for her own healing, and partly to bring to our awareness of what life was like for those who were "put-away" from the public view when they could not pay their bills. This book will be especially compelling for those who know the importance of shedding light on family secrets, for those interested in Oregon history, and for those who are drawn to the Edgefield Manor.
