One of the best translation-related purchases I made this year so far and certainly the best US$ 25 I spent last April was the then newly-released "The Entrepreneurial Linguist: The Business-School Approach to Freelance Translation", by Judy & Dagmar Jenner. The American and international translation communities already know the Jenner sisters as a translator duo that is very active in publishing articles for translators’ associations, giving workshops, blogging about our industry and, of course, running a successful translation business from both Las Vegas and Vienna. Then, in mid-April, they published a book that should be on every professional translator’s bookshelf. If you do not know the Jenner sisters, you had better read what they have to say. This is a book about running a translation & interpreting business, with emphasis on the word business. The Jenner sisters argue that in order to be a successful linguist (translator or interpreter) you have to be... More > entrepreneurial and learn how to design marketing strategies, negotiate with clients, develop a reasonable pricing structure, consider crucial tax-related aspects and organize your accounting records. This business-school approach is what usually is left out of translations programs at universities and learned only with time and experience. The Jenners’ book helps you gain that knowledge now instead of having to learn it the hard way. ... Read the rest of this review on "Fidus interpres": http://fidusinterpres.com/?p=7175< Less

This book is great, very easy to read, very interesting, very true and full of very practical information and tips. It is specifically tailored to translators and interpreters who want to grow their business and reach direct clients. It addresses most of our needs, questions, challenges, fears, etc. It gives a lot of insightful advice and that entrepreneurial punch that many of us lack. After reading the book, I feel pumped-up, full of energy and of new ideas to grow my business. Thank you Judy and Dagmar for sharing your knowledge and experience.
