This book wasn't meant to start with no ending. Mind you we sure had a beginning and a middle. It's about what happens when teenage rebellion runs out of steam. One day you wake up as someone else, up to your neck in drugs and guns. Exactly where it all started to go wrong was the same place as it began. 1981. LU7 Punks. Safety pins and stillettoes. It ended up in Andalucia with Corvettes and Brownings. Music was the only constant. It's no masterpiece but it's written and printed.

Sep 20, 2009"A great read, and highly recommended" I saw this book advertised in our local paper, and thought I'd log on and buy it. Only to realise that some of the great times of my life have been written about here, woods parties, caldecotte lake, the MK scence. Glad to hear you survived to tell your tales and hope the horrendous bits are the bit's that aren't true. When's the next installment? I loved it. from an old Bletchley Goth!
Aug 19, 2009"Yeah Baby" I didn't know the Julian of that era or MK or Luton but I was a goth at around the same time at the other end of the country and this book reminded me of some of the things that went on not far from me. I found I had to read on and on until I finished just to see what would happen, I enjoyed the punchy style once I got used to it and thought it was interesting how matters of the heart were written in a slightly more fluid (intentional?) way. I probably superimposed pictures of people from my youth into the characters which brought it to life for me and it certainly made me curious about where Julian is now. Great to see that a misspent youth doesn't mean being written off for ever, hope for us all! but sad to see how much influence parents and a lack of roots can have. There is a kind of searching throughout I felt, looking for what I don't know, love? acceptance? a sense of Self? a kind of vulnerability covered by bravado which touched me and has made me think... More > a lot since. I would definately recommend reading it, the musical references alone will bring back memories and if your own growing up was staid, why not live dangerously through someone elses. I'm sure your friends will be proud Julian, both of the book and the fact that you lived to tell your tale and escape the less positive influences which once held you in their thrawl.< Less
Dec 31, 1969"Yeah, Baby. " MORE OF A PERSONAL REFLECTION, THAN A REVIEW. SORRY. I received this book, written by my friend Julian (aka Jay) Wolfendale today. Having all the time in the world- currently convalescing from a heart operation (maybe I'm a survivor too) I sat down and read it straight through. From cover to cover. I felt compelled to. I'm sorry it took me far less time to read it than it obviously did to write it. I felt a bit smug that I had a name check quite early on. But this was part of the cozy and safe punk rock life (relatively) of the early 1980s in/around Leighton Buzzard. Things for Mr W become rather less safe and comfortable as life progresses. A tale of spontaneity, 'do what thy will', fun and frolics before things take a turn for the worse- events getting out of control; danger, drugs and death. I recognise some of the action in the book- Leighton Buzzard punk, Mutoid Waste Company, the woods parties. The action in Spain and France I do not. How much is fact,... More > how much is fiction, I do not know. I myself was invited to Andalucia by Tony. I never went. Maybe, on relection, I did the right thing. If things are to be believed. But it also seems selfish of me. Maybe Tony wanted to say goodbye, as he knew he was dying. That was a shock, back in March 2003. A terrible loss that still hurts me too. And there are such cases, although I don't recognise many people in this tale. I was outside of most if it. Written from the heart by someone who lived it. These are the best stories. RIP Mad Dave- J did you proud. Ian L, 28/06/07< Less
Dec 31, 1969"Re: A great read, and highly recommended" hello mystery goth. The bits that aren't true. Perhaps not the bits you might think. As for the next instalment i'm not sure . I didn't set out to write the first one, so doing another is something i hadn't thought about. Needless to say for every page in yeah baby there are a hundred i never wrote. Maybe i shouldn't .....Glad you enjoyed it. J x.
