I thought the story was well-written, but I thought it lacked the narrative hook that good science fiction specializes in. Whenever I read science fiction stuff like Star Wars or Ray Bradbury, I expect to be punched in the gut within the first paragraph. This story read more like "The English Patient" than a sci-fi novella. Plus the author pretty much explains the hook in the author's note, so most of the mystery's gone by the time you start reading the main story. Still, it is well-written and the book would make for a great gift for a young Christian boy who happens to be stuck in the hospital and needs something to occupy his time. If you know such a boy, please buy this book.
