Expecting to be returned to their world after the successful retrieval of the red crystal quadrant, Rabbit and Rupert are instead sucked, with Jasper and Aden, into the oceans of Prism. From Undersea to the home of the mer-people, and then to the utter deep and the realms of the slurry, Rupert, Rabbit, Jasper and Aden experience the very best and worst the watery worlds have to offer, as their journey becomes a terrifying quest for the blue crystal quadrant. The Deeper Darkness is book 2 in the Prism series.

I had never really been a fantasy book lover until I read the 7 Harry Potter books. I had really enjoyed them so when a good friend told me to read The Terror of Prism Fading I thought I'd give it a try. Great advice. The book was outstanding. It took me to another world full of detail and amazing characters. How does she come up with all those names?!? I am a doctor and I have very little time to read. That didn't stop me. Once I began I couldn't put it down. I had been very much looking forward to the second book in the series and bought The Deeper Darkness as soon as I found out it had come out. It was even better than the first. I hope I don't have to wait long for the next installment. J.K. who?
The Deeper Darkness is the second book of the Prism series by K.E. Stapylton. Having loved the first book, The Terror of Prism Fading, I was excited to receive my copy of The Deeper Darkness. This author does NOT disappoint! I enjoyed this book even more than the first and can’t wait for the next to be published. The Deeper Darkness is a story rich in detail and emotion, with a mood that is palpable. We are not just reading, we are journeying with the members of the Quest to find the second of four missing crystals in an effort to save Prism from fading. This phase of the Quest is intense and we gain even more insight about these well-developed characters. The plot takes some fascinating turns above land and below sea (keeping me up far past my bedtime). Their underwater journey is full of challenges and scary new creatures, but also full of humor, humility, forgiveness, hope and love. As an adult reader of fantasy stories I appreciated the book as a way to step out of my own world... More > for a while. Both children and adults can enter the world of Prism and discover what they need at this time of their life. It’s a series of books that can be easily read aloud as a family and re-read. My second read of each book offered a whole new experience. I heard more humor and noticed more details in the story once I had accepted the perils that the characters would have to experience. My favorite aspect of the Prism stories, and especially The Deeper Darkness, is that the characters face ethical challenges and struggle with them. They face their fears, act imperfectly, and often change their perspective or apologize for their words and deeds. The crystals are reclaimed only by embodying the energy they represent, so these characters are not just challenged to perform, but challenged to be their best self. We have a lot to learn from Rabbit, Rupert, Aden, and Jasper, as well as the adults and animals that support them. All of the children in my life will receive the Prism series to inspire and encourage them. Adult friends will receive the books to experience the greatest adventure they may ever take.< Less
