"A Book To Return To Again and Again" The writing of Karen Corcoran Dabkowski is a wonder to behold. When I first received her book of poetry, "Inappropriate Muse", I thought I would play perfect martyr and only allow myself to read one poem a day, one poem like a full bodied glass of wine good for both body and soul. Needless to say, that regimen did not happen. Karen's writing is just way too compelling, each poem luring the reader on, further, deeper into the woman's craft. There is such startling clarity, heart, pathos and humor in this book. There is also the bravery of an honesty which will allow the reader great identification. Not since I first started reading poetry outside of academia, have I come across a poet whom, with the caliber of Jong or Piercy, consistently excites, moves, and opens spiritual doors. I believe this is an important literary work, especially in a historical context given the poems which take on the themes of America's current war... More > with Iraq. "Inappropriate Muse", for its accessiblity and pull-no-punches smarts, is a book even those averse to poetry, will surely marvel over.
