For the ten generations since the evil first came to Woodcutter's Grim, the Guardians have sworn an oath to protect the town from the childhood horrors that lurk in the black woods. Without them, the town would be defenseless…and the terrors would escape to the world at large.
Very loosely based on “Metamorphoses: The Story of Pygmalion and the Statue” by Ovid.
Cheyenne Welsh can’t forget her past and the disappearance of her younger sister. When she returns to Woodcutter’s Grim to sell the family property she grew up on, she’s confronted with all the nightmare-realities of her childhood, still alive and well, still right where she left them--down in the darkness the Deep dwells inside. Her home...

5 Stars! “If you have not read the previous stories in this series, do not worry. You will still fully understand what is happening. Each title is a stand-alone story. However, those who have read at least a couple of them will be able to envision these events in a broader scope. Each story is a different, dark piece of the evil puzzle that is known as Woodcutter’s Grim. If you enjoy authors who write “old school style”, then this entire series should be to your taste. All the titles, especially this one, has the spicy flavor of the old Gothic Romances that I used to greedily consume. This story has romance, mystery, suspense, adventure, and horror all blended together. Something for everyone. As usual, Karen Wiesner gives readers what they crave—and more.” ~Detra Fitch for Huntress Reviews http://www.huntressreviews.com 5 Stars! “THE DEEP is a bone-chilling horror novel loosely based on Metamorphoses: The Story of Pygmalion and the Statue by Ovid. Karen Wiesner entices the reader... More > into the creatively built world, Woodcutter’s Grim, where evil likes to reside. The author’s vivid descriptions of a creepy [fetish] doll, an unknown creature in the basement, and the cold that permeates the house combine into a thoroughly spooky page-turning read. Even with the evil creature as a large part of this story, Wiesner skillfully rebuilds Cheyenne Welsh and James Beck’s relationship as well. Their heartfelt conversations, confessions, and forgiveness make them couple to cheer for. This entertaining, hair-raising novel with an action-packed climax, where—in true fairy-tale fashion—good triumphs over evil and the couple lives happily ever after, stands alone so reading the earlier tales isn’t necessary to enjoy this story.” ~BTSemag http://www.btsemag "This novel merges horror and romance in a perfectly balanced combination. The conflict between Cheyenne’s loathing of her former home and James’s duty to remain in the town is believable, and their emotional clashes are rendered with wrenching intensity. Vividly portrayed sensory details enhance the horror, especially the icy cold of the house and the odor of mushrooms that intermittently permeates the atmosphere. Wiesner employs African myth and legend to create a plotline intriguingly different from the European-based hauntings of much horror fiction.” ~Author Margaret L.
