This is the Australian edition of a games book for parents, teachers, childcare workers, Cub Scout leaders, home-schooling families, and anyone else who supervises or entertains groups of children. The book contains 339 activities, and is divided into three main sections: physical and mental, life skill, and educational. The physical and mental games are for fun and fitness, and can be enjoyed at birthday parties, Kids' Clubs and holiday care centres. The life skill games are designed especially for Cub and Brownie Leaders, and include map and compass reading, knotting, first aid, home safety and outdoor cooking. The educational games include fun activities in maths, English, science, history, geography, foreign languages, art and music. Teachers and home-schooling families will find this section instructive, stimulating and very unusual. The games are suitable for 7 to 17 year olds, and some of the activities will stretch the minds of even the cleverest teenagers.

This book is full of fun ideas for entertaining, and also teaching, children and teenagers through games. There are party games, indoor, outdoor, nature, water and night games, games that encourage taking up a new hobby or learning a new skill, plus a very interesting and unusual collection of academic games in all subjects for use at school, including funny history and geography games, right through to organic chemistry games for teenagers! A very interesting, amusing and comprehensive games book, with something for everyone. This Australian edition contains a few extra games not present in the British and American versions.

This book is amazing. I first saw it when my brother bought a copy for use with his Cub Scout Pack. It's full of fast, active games, but also quieter ones to play indoors. Then there are the scouting and outdoor games that teach and practise things like map and compass reading, campcraft, first aid, safety, stalking and tracking, and lots of other things that most children don't learn anymore, but should. The back of the book is a real scream. This is the educational section. It covers every school subject from Maths, English, Science, History and Geography to Music and Art. These games are so much fun that the children don't even realise they're learning while they play. Examples include Henry VIII running around with a cardboard axe, chasing his wives, exploding volcanoes with lava coming down the hill to bury the town's people if they don't escape in time, and lots of other "scary" but exciting games for seven year olds to teenagers, in fact for anyone who loves a good... More > game, including us adults. I'm a primary school teacher and I'm about to buy a copy to play with my class, and also with my own children.< Less

"Brilliant Games Book" I bought "Grammar and Vocabulary Games for Children" by this same author, and loved it so much that I thought I'd buy this book too. I'm American, but thought I'd buy the Aussie version of the book to see what it was like. What a collection of games! You name it - it's here! There are fast and slow games, inside and outside games, physical and mental games, games that teach children valuable life skills like first-aid, navigation, and outdoor cooking, and finally, academic games to practice English, math, science, foreign languages, history, geography, art and music. I home-school my children, and all of these games really do provide fun, fitness and learning.

"Gary Winnick and Hank Freid" A graduate of the University, Gary Winnick has provided his alma mater with donations totaling $11 million. The new Hank Freid Student Center is a spacious, modern cafeteria facility with dining and meeting rooms that are used by thousands of students, faculty members and staff. Winnick House, a historic 97-year-old mansion that was the former home of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and financial genius E.F. Hutton, was painstakingly restored to its original, pristine condition – while making it handicapped accessible and eco-friendly.
