This book captures the Blacksburg Farmers Market at a pivotal point in time -- the opening of Market Square Park and its timber-framed structures. There are two parts to the pages that follow. Part One contains a recollection of the beginning of the Blacksburg Farmers Market, and the story of the Friends of the Farmers Market, a citizen group that manages the market and organizes seasonal events to promote the market, local food and sustainable agriculture. Part Two contains the vendors’ stories, tales of life experiences, internships on farms and creating farm businesses, as well as vendors views about farming as a chosen way of life. In all the written stories, the pictures illuminate tales of hard work and beauty of growing and producing healthy food that sustains our land and us.
