This illustrated story follows the chaotic journey of a disillusioned naive artist as she makes several life-changing decisions. Surfacing from a broken marriage she dives headlong into the pursuit her dreams. Eventually she crosses the channel to find tranquillity and creative fulfilment, but is also lured like so many others by the promise of ‘la bonne vie’, sunshine, cheap wine, and of course a ‘pied á terre’. Based on real life it’s written in a humorous style and laced with family observations, childhood anecdotes and notable faux pas from both sides of ‘la manche’. Sometimes witty, sometimes poignant, it’s littered with scenarios to which many will equate. Whilst it attempts to put a realistic slant on finding a French dream property, a task that can have you pulling your hair out in bunches, the narrative is balanced with a generous smattering of fun and is entertaining to the end. Enjoy…

"Snails on my Palette by Kathy Farmer" I have just finished reading this very amusing book and enjoyed it so much that found at it's end I suffered some slight withdrawal symtoms. I found lots to empathise with and smile about with known memories. In my opinion the book was too short, I wanted to read more!!! Good way to end by the Author Kat as it leaves the chance of a "follow on". I will certainly be interested in the next "chapter of their life in France" I think knowing "Kat and Kit", reading the book gave me an insight into their past, whilst having an enjoyable read.

"Snails on my Palette" A delightfully fun and entertaining romp through Ms Farmer's life. I must get the sequel to see how the move across the channel has progressed. Val

"A Fun Book" Lots of alliteration going on, it seems. Playful writing and good illustrations. A rather different sort of book. Haven't seen much like it before, and glad to have read the preview.

"Snails on my Palette" I loved this book. It is a warm human tale told with wry irony. Kat has a great way with words and the book is full of wonderfully inventive similes. She is also an acute and sympathetic observer of her environment and the characters she encounters, as one would expect from an artist. Kat and Kit seem to positively court drama and disaster as they take on the task of renovating a series of run down country properties. The book ends with them finally having achieved their dream, yet another unpromising sounding property, but this time in France. One is left in suspense wondering what new series challenges it provides. I did spot a number of minor proof reading errors, the kind that aren’t caught by a spell checker, but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this book, and I look forward to the sequel.
