When their youngest child, Matthew, was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, ADD and OCD, Kathy and Tony Giordano tried everything they could think of to alleviate Matt’s severe symptoms and significant behavior issues. But once they discovered their son’s undeniable talent for drumming, the Giordanos began to focus on Matt’s abilities instead of only on his difficulties.
In this no-holds-barred memoir, the Giordanos discuss Matt’s intense childhood symptoms and the family’s feelings of isolation and blame. Kathy shares her desperate search for an answer and struggle to keep her family intact, while Tony tells the story of a frustrated yet determined father. Matt reflects on his difficult childhood and provides tips for parents of children with similar obstacles, plus explains the critical support that allowed him to start his company, Drum Echoes, Inc.

Even the most casual observer of human nature must admit that everyone they've encountered has been uniquely their own person Those more in-tune have the ability to rejoice in the individuality of each person they know while the finest educators have a gift that allows them to know how to bring out the best in their students by taking the time to connect with each child. This takes tremendous time, effort and patience and those wise enough to realize it never stops have the potential to dramatically impact the lives of their students, while those incapable or unwilling to make this sort of investment can delay (and perhaps inhibit) a child's development. Children benefit most when the adults in their lives help them play to their individual strengths while strategically making progress on their weaknesses. I'd like to thank Kathy, Matthew, and Tony for sharing their journey. I laughed and cried as I empathized with their thoughts and feelings. I now realize that I am not alone, and... Written like a conversation, this book welcomes you into a camaraderie of support and encouragement. Kathy and Matt Giordano share with raw honesty and courage the experiences shared by so many but spoken by so few. Their journey has been long and amazing and worth every step, because it has provided them the knowledge and expertise needed to guide others on their treks. I thank these authors for pulling me into their support group from the very first page. They put words to emotions I have had for years as a parent, but could never describe. I came, I laughed, I cried, and I left feeling stronger.
I have read your book so many times and I am about to return the book back to NRCIL where I borrowed it. I plan on buying this because it has been such a life saver for me. I tend to grab the book and randomly open to any page and each time I do, I open up to something that is needed in that exact moment. Thanks once again for the gift you gave when you wrote this book. There are days when nothing goes right, when people in our lives, be it friends, family, strangers and schools, simply don’t get it or harshly throw opinions at us and when those days come, I HOLD tight to your book.. I cling to my pages and know that what ever my finger lands on, it is something that will remind me I am not alone. I even enjoy it when days are good! I recommend this book to anyone - I have read many great books but none have compared to this one!
