In 1910, injustice and inequality ran rampant throughout American society. The nation's women were fighting for their ballots, oppressed working-class families fought for their human rights, and everyone everywhere was fighting against some sort of prejudice.
When Jo Woodley, idealistic and unprepared, leaves her comfortable life in Polite Society for one of ambition and anomaly, she is thrown in the middle of all these fights. And in each one, she is forced to choose a side.
As she is amazed and appalled by the truths of the hidden world around her, she grows more and more restless. Is her indignation at the wrongs she is surrounded by worth anything? How can she, as the only girl attending a prestigious law school, make any sort of difference? How , in a world frought with injustice, can she decide what is just?
