AND ONE MORE THING is a collection of twenty-four essays taking you on a journey where you will pause to reflect on the little things in life that you have no doubt about whatsoever. Thomas writes on experiences that fit all ages, from the art of social networking, to gently reminding adult children to take back their stuff stored at home. Could less be more than enough? Your car's interior tells your story. With an unusual twist of words that will make you laugh, Thomas searches for places of solitude, dines with cowboys, dances with Dick Clark in her dreams and shares closet space with her spouse.

Dec 3, 2012And One More Thing: I Break for Squirrels and Other Thoughts I Have No Doubt About, is the first compilation of Livingston County News columnist Kay Thomas' writing. Introducing a watchful and caring voice, Thomas' words begin to surround the reader with a grounded realism not without wisdom, wit and pure fun. Neither preaching nor harping on the obvious, Kay's eye glances at our most human nature of loneliness without flinching – and we never know what hits us as we suddenly realize we're looking, laughing and wondering with someone who has managed to hold on to their innocence with a timeless grace and humor. Not surprisingly, I found myself thinking of this new voice, and realized that along with one of our collective favorites, she too grew up on Long Island in another time. Transplanted for a career in teaching rural Upstate New York children in the Finger Lakes region, her awareness shared through this collection of observations is a gift we will not soon forget. No simple... More > travel log or journal, Kay Thomas' phenomenal first step holds a safe harbor for us. Yes, step aside Mr. Steinbeck – good sir – time to let this lady through!< Less
Oct 25, 2012This weekend I had to make my bi-annual trip to the Laundramat to wash my quilts. Normally it's not a chore I enjoy -- sitting in a chair, watching my quilts go round and round. But this time it was different. This time I had Kay Thomas' new book, And One More thing, to help me pass the time. And One More thing is a delightful collection of essays extracted from Kay's newspaper column by the same name at The Livingston County News. This little book is chock full of insights from the author's observations of people, places and experiences. It is written with great warmth and humor. I have had the privilege of chatting with Kay over coffee. Reading this book is just like that! Some of the essays had me chuckling, and others caused me to feel sadly nostalgic. Some, like My Special Shangri-la Calls Me Softly, caused me to simply pause and savor the beauty of the author's writing... The New Mexico lavender sunsets are the most awesome wonders every night, and I will stop whatever I am... More > doing -- even a good dinner with friends, to observe all the subtleties of the tints and hues crossing the horizons. The unique displays never disappoint night after night... Addressing everything from Social Networking to the overwhelming amount of choices for cold remedies, reading this wonderful collection of thoughts was a truly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.< Less
