The large color photographs in this 62 page book give access to beautiful altars and artifacts from a California Chinese Temple that is no longer viewable by the public. The accompanying descriptions and historical background bring the images to life and enhance our understanding of each piece's importance. The temple was used by the Chinese community in Chico, California, beginning in the 1880's. There are also black and white historic photographs of processions in Chico--where some of the temple artifacts can be identified in actual use. The book is an important resource on California history, early Chinese culture in California, and the history of Chico, California.
