Nov 18, 2009The following are from letters received by the author: “I recall the last visit of Rev. Kenneth and Shirley Knight to Cuttack in 2004. We enjoyed their fellowship over dinner along with their daughter and son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Bob and Kathy Shaughnessy. This former missionary couple to Gajapati were in India to research and write a Canadian mission history of Gajapti, particularly the mission work among Oriya people. I expressed my appreciation of their noble effort despite their advanced age. I was grieved to learn of the passing of Rev. Kenneth Knight, but Mrs. Shirley Knight did not give it up and as a result this vision has been carried forward. A recent trip took me to New York City, Washington, DC and other places. My ministry has also taken me to countries in Europe and Asia in past years. My participation in Billy Graham Conferences in Amsterdam,1986 and 2000, are the most significant. Above all, I am heading an indigenous mission, “India Evangelistic Association,” reaching out... More > to the most unreached areas and people in India, besides many other responsibilities as a mission leader. The position I hold today is because of Canadian missionaries who, with great sacrifice, brought the light of the Gospel to Gajapati’s mountains and valleys about 110 years ago. I can very well imagine the darkness of the area both physically and spiritually and the backwardness, when those first pioneer missionaries landed in Gajapati. As I write these few lines, my heart is filled with gratitude to the Canadian Board, missionaries and with thanks to God who thought of the most backward people of the area groping in utter darkness. Now it amazes me to see the absolute transformation of the area with hundreds of churches and thousands of Christians from both dalit and Saura tribal communities who worship the living God. I feel this is the greatest achievement of the Canadian mission in Gajapati. I assume they must be ever thankful to God for their mission work in Gajapati. Finally, it is my prayer that this Gajapati history will inspire many more young people of the area to commit their lives for the Lord in the years ahead, to continue to serve Him and Him alone. Rev. Dr. P. R. Parichha, D.D< Less
