In this issue, we feature translations of the Chinese poet Li Shangyin (813-858) by Chloe Garcia Roberts, some of the Odes of Euripides by Francis Blessington, George McWhirter’s translations of Homero Aridjis, and Michael Donhauser’s "The Thicket," translated by Nick Hoff. We also feature a section of The Boston Irish edited by Meg Tyler. For poems, we have sonnets by Joel Sloman, work by Ben Mazer, Sunnylyn Thibodeaux, Danielle Legros Georges and much more. We also feature the poet John Brooks Wheelwright, killed at just 43 in 1940. Wheelwright’s poetry was described by John Ashbery as “quite as pregnant with options for the future of poetry as anything that Pound or Eliot produced,” yet he is all but forgotten in American and world poetry. Alongside a number of essays, New Directions has granted spoKe permission to reprint a handful of Wheelwright’s key poems.
