Pre-Amplifier project book using commonly available tubes and easily constructed. Designs often feature 0 feedback topologies (some local feedback is used)and tightly regulated supplies. A variety of line stages and phono stages of varying complexity are featured. The more advanced line stages feature front panel switchable output polarity. (Absolute polarity) Phono stages are all passively RIAA equalized with single stage passive equalization networks.

"Kevin Kennedy" I have been a friend of Kevin Kennedy's since the 1980s. Whatever I know about tube electronics and whatever I have been able to build for my system has been the direct result of the help and instruction he has given me. The result has been a system that I have been pleased with, that has been fun to build, and has been a lot less expensive to maintain than if I had gone the retail route. I own this book but have not built any of the designs in it because I have so much money invested in a preamp I bought for a pretty steep price many years ago. That said, my preamp has been heavily modified with circuits, etc., that Kevin has suggested. Several years ago, before Kevin taught me how to solder correctly, I was having trouble with it and borrowed one of Kevin's early preamps--possibly one of the designs in his book. I was impressed enough with it to consider dumping my own preamp (and all the expensive tubes I had put in it). Kevin's little unit was that good.... More > In fact, if I were younger and had the patience, I'd probably ditch it and build one of Kevin's designs now. All that said, I have built a few of Kevin's other designs, as well as installed a good number of his modifications, including power supplies, regulators, etc. All have worked well, been extremely reliable, and have sounded very good. I do have a friend who has built one of the preamps in this book, and he has been extremely pleased with it. I heard it, and it is a big improvement over the unit he had previously. This guy has plenty of experience with high end gear, both as a purchaser and as an afficionado who compares equipment all the time. He moved away a few years ago, but as far as I know, he has stuck with Kevin's preamp and is very happy with it. Kevin knows his stuff. His circuits are relatively and perhaps deceptively simple, yet they are sophisticated enough to benefit from the use of the finest parts. I don't think you'll be disappointed in any of them< Less
