For those interested in the benefits of a DHT line stage, these clear and easily understood plans will allow one to build a line stage that will bring years of pleasure. Although there have been a few commercially produced DHT line stages using 45, 2A3 and 300B tubes, they were not great successes, due to I believe, design and construction issues. I have built two of these in a previous version and can attest to the excellent linearity and lack of coloration, whilst maintaining an almost holographic and flowing presentation. There are others around the globe who have built this design and are equally pleased, not to mention a lot of renewed interest in this concept which can be researched on various DIY audio forums. There are a few basic points to make, or strong suggestions, if one is considering this project. Following the schematics and component choices will yield the most satisfying results, born of Kevin's years of tweaking this design. The power supply is very stiff and... More > robust, but is an easy design to build. The choices of plate to line transformers are fairly broad, with even the opportunity to use parafeed with Magnequest B7-15K transformers, as well as several vintage options. As the tubes are microphonic and sensitive to electromagnetic fields, it is desirable to separate the power supply on a discrete chassis, use a substantial chassis for the signal section with Teflon sockets for the DHT and tube shields for the DHTs are a must. I have little to no doubt that anyone looking to build a DHT line stage will be very pleased with the results. I for one certainly am happy to enjoy the listening experience.< Less
